IMPORTANT

Applications from Not Authorized/Not Exempt states cannot be considered at this time. Due to higher education regulatory requirements, South Dakota State University is unable to accept applications for admission to the RN to BSN, RN to MSN, RN to DNP, and Graduate Nursing programs from persons who reside in, or intend to reside in, any of the states identified as "Not Authorized/Not Exempt" or those in which clinical or internships cannot be completed as noted on the SDSU Authorization by State map. The Master’s to DNP Option 2 (for registered nurses with a Master’s Degree in Nursing (non-clinical focus) is now closed for Fall 2017. The Fall 2018 application cycle will open in September 2017.

For applicants with English as a second language, one the following tests for English proficiency must be completed within 2 years preceding the requested semester of admission: 

  • TOEFL of 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based or 100 Internet-based score, or
  • IELTS score of 7.0 total band.

***Applicants with a master's degree in a non-clinical specialty are eligible to apply to the Master's DNP/FNP, however, will be required to complete the Family Nurse Practitioner course/clinical requirements.


Application Requirements

To apply to the SDSU Graduate Nursing Program, you are required to submit two applications:

  1. The SDSU Graduate School Application (online application), follow the Graduate School's instructions for completing their application. You will not send references or transcripts to the Graduate School. These items must be uploaded through the NursingCAS application. No exceptions.
  2. The SDSU Graduate Nursing Application via NursingCAS (online application service), the Fall 2017 application cycle will open on September 26, 2016.  Application information and instructions will be available at that time.

The deadlines for complete applications are listed below.  Incomplete / Non-verified applications will not be considered.

Applications are considered COMPLETE if they are listed in the NursingCAS system as follows:

Verified –   this designation applies to applications that all required information has been received and verified by NursingCAS.

NOTE:  ALL applications MUST be designated as VERIFIED by NursingCAS prior to Review Consideration.

Priority Consideration (Family Nurse Practitioner Only):  Complete and/or Verified applications received by the PRIORITY deadline will be reviewed with potential for early notification of acceptance to the program.  Only applications that have been VERIFIED by NursingCAS will be considered for Interview.

Due to higher education regulatory requirements, SDSU is unable to accept applications from persons who reside in states that either the University of Missouri-Columbia or Kansas City are not authorized to provide coursework.
