This is the place where our students get top quality education, our faculty innovates through world-class research and scholarship, and our staff provide dedicated support to our faculty and students to ensure their success. This is the place where we have trained thousands of alumni who went on to become successful entrepreneurs; distinguished engineers, scientists, and mathematicians; and thoughtful citizens serving the communities they live in.

Lohr College of Engineering.

You can also enhance your degree with many options for real-life work experience right here in Brookings or nearby. Most of our students complete part-time work in their major before graduation at nearby engineering/manufacturing companies who are eager to hire our students and graduates.

2023 officers for ASCE

SDSU named nation’s top civil engineering student chapter for third straight year

For the third year in a row, the award for the best student chapter of civil engineering students went to South Dakota State University. The Robert Ridgway Student Chapter Award is presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers to the top chapter nationwide. On April 18, adviser Zach Gutzmer learned that the SDSU chapter was tops among 416 student chapters nationwide and 26 foreign countries. Before its 2022-2024 streak, SDSU also won the award in 1999 and 2004.

SDSU’s M.S. in data science ranked No. 4 in affordability, quality

The Master of Science in data science program at South Dakota State University received the No. 4 spot in a 2024 list by Tech Guide ranking quality and affordability of graduate degrees in data science.

SDSU, college celebrate McComish Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

South Dakota State University leaders, faculty, staff, students and supporters celebrated a Montana couple whose investment has endowed the McComish Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering. A $5 million gift from Richard “Dick” and Karen McComish created the university’s first endowed and named department. The McComishes were honored at an April 26 naming ceremony and reception at Chicoine Architecture, Mathematics and Engineering Hall.
