Letterhead and Envelopes

Use of official stationery is permitted only for officially recognized colleges, offices, departments, divisions and academic organizations.

The university offers two versions of stationery. The first version features the Contemporary Institutional Signature (SD logo) printed in full color in the upper left-hand corner and the contact information printed along the bottom. The other version consists of the Traditional Institutional Signature (Campanile logo) printed in the upper left-hand corner and contact information in the upper right-hand corner in PMS 287. Both versions are printed on 8.5-inch x 11-inch, 20 lb. white bond paper.

The contact information may only include (in this order):

  • Name of College
  • Name of Department
  • Building and room number, box number (Communications Center 105, Box 2230)
  • South Dakota State University
  • City, State and Zip Code
  • Telephone Number
  • Fax Number
  • Department website

Note: Email addresses are not permitted on university stationery.

Physical addresses are not used on official stationery.

To ensure visual consistency, all official university stationery will be designed by University Marketing and Communications and printed through the SDSU Print Lab.

Use of SDSU’s official standard business envelopes is only for officially recognized colleges, offices, departments, divisions and academic organizations.

The university offers two versions of business envelopes. The first version features the Contemporary Institutional Signature (SD logo) printed in full color in the upper left-hand corner and the contact information printed in PMS 289 to the right of of logo. The second version consists of the Traditional Institutional Signature (developed for envelope use) printed in PMS 287 in the upper left hand corner with return address information to the right. It can be printed on standard #10, #9, or #6 3/4 white envelopes.

Larger white envelopes are also printed in full color but larger manila envelopes are usually printed in black.

The contact information may only include (in this order):

  • Name of College
  • Name of Department
  • Building and room number, box number (Communications Center 105, Box 2230)
  • City, State, and Zip Code

Depending on how an envelope is mailed (first class, bulk, nonprofit or standard presort), the order of the return address may differ to correspond to U. S. Postal regulations.

To ensure visual consistency, all official university stationery will be designed by University Marketing and Communications and printed through the SDSU Print Lab.
