Students' Association Advisor of the Year Award

Recognize an Outstanding Academic Advisor

The SDSU student body recognizes outstanding faculty and professional academic advisors each year through the Students' Association Advisor of the Year Award. The Advisor of the Year Award is nominated and awarded entirely by SDSU students.

2020 Advisor of the Year Award Dates

  • Tuesday, February 18th – Advisor of the Year Award nominations open. Nominations may be submitted using this form.
  • Friday, March 6th – Advisor of the Year Award nominations close at 5:00pm. Nominations must be submitted using this form before 5:00pm CST.
  • Monday, March 16th – Advisor of the Year Award selection begins. The Students' Association Board of Directors will begin reviewing nominations and making award selection.
  • Monday, March 30th – Advisor of the Year Award winners selected and Students' Association President notified of award winners. The Students' Association Board of Directors will select Advisor of the Year Award winners no later than March 30th and inform the Students' Association President of the award winners.
  • Monday, April 6th – Advisor of the Year Award winners announced. Winners of the Advisor of the Year Award in all categories (Professional Advisor and Faculty Advisor) will be announced at the Students' Association Senate meeting at 7:00pm in the Lewis & Clark Room of the University Student Union.

Advisor of the Year Award Rules and Process

The Students' Association Advisor of the Year Award was established by the Students' Association Senate on February 22nd, 2016 by ordinance 15-03-O. The rules and process established therein are as follows:

Process

  1. Nominations shall be open not later than the fifth (5th) week preceding the Students’ Association election.
  2. Nominations must be filed in the Students’ Association office no later than 5:00pm on Monday of the second (2nd) week preceding the Students’ Association election. 
  3. Nomination packets must be distributed to the selection committees no later than the Monday of the week preceding the Students’ Association election. 
  4. The Selection Committee shall submit to the Students’ Association President the name of the nominee selected for the award no later than 5:00pm on the Monday of the week following the Students’ Association election.
  5. The Advisor of the Year Award shall be given in each of these categories:
    1. Faculty Advisor;
    2. Professional Advisor;
    3. Other categories as determined by the Students’ Association Senate upon a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Senate members.
  6. Unless previous arrangements have been made, the Students’ Association President shall announce the names of the recipients at the Students’ Association Senate meeting no later than the Monday of the second (2nd) week following the Students’ Association election. 

Nominations

  1. Any student may nominate any advisor for the Students’ Association Advisor of the Year Award.  
  2. Nominations must include the following:
    1. One nominating letter, no more than one page, with the following information: 
      1. Advisor’s name;
      2. Description of why the advisor should be named the Advisor of the Year.
  3. Nominations may include the following:
    1. 0­-3 letters of student support, no more than one page each.

Selection Committee 

  1. Students Association Board of Directors
    1. The Students’ Association Board of Directors shall serve as the selection committee for the Advisor of the Year Award.
