Opportunities
Every student, regardless of their major, has the opportunity to participate in a number of ensembles and experiences that SDSU has to offer. These include:
- Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band
- Wind Symphony (auditioned group)
- Concert Band
- CommUniversity Band
- Symphony Orchestra
- Jazz Ensemble 1 and 2 (auditioned group)
- Low Brass Ensemble
Low Brass at SDSU
Being a member of the low brass studio at SDSU means the opportunity to be a part of a studio that prides itself in its family atmosphere. Any student can take lessons at SDSU, and regardless of their major they are treated the same as any other student. Whether your goal is to pursue a career in music as a performer and/or an educator, or you just want to develop your skills on your instrument, the Low Brass Studio has a place for you. If you don’t have time in your schedule to take lessons, but you would still like to improve, then the Low Brass Ensemble provides the opportunity for you to perform with other low brass instrumentalists on campus.
Recent graduates of the low brass studio have had success competing in local and regional solo competitions, have received graduate teaching assistantships at institutions such as Oklahoma State University, the University of Iowa, Middle Tennessee State University, and obtained positions as K-12 educators in South Dakota and its surrounding States.

Dr. Bradley Snyder
Instructor of Low Brass
Dr. Bradley Snyder joined the faculty of South Dakota State University in August 2022. At SDSU, Dr. Snyder teaches courses in applied trombone, applied euphonium, applied tuba, music appreciation, music technology, and brass pedagogy for music education majors. Prior to joining the faculty at SDSU, Snyder served as the bass trombonist with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra for four seasons.
As a performer, Snyder has performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Grand Opera, the Jacksonville Symphony, the Southwest Florida Symphony, the Coastal Symphony of Georgia, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, the Balcony Big Band, the Houston Jazz Orchestra, the Foundation for Modern Music, and the Houston Brass Quintet.
Dr. Snyder received a Doctor of Music from Florida State University, a Master of Music from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music from Pennsylvania State University.
