Dairy Club

Dairy Club

The SDSU Dairy Club is an active student organization for those interested in the dairy industry. Any SDSU student can join, a Dairy Science major is not required. Dairy Club provides opportunities for professional development and social interaction through numerous events on campus and throughout the dairy industry. Travel opportunities are available including the World Dairy Expo, Canadian Royal, and dairy conferences and meetings throughout the year. All students are invited to attend monthly club meetings and become active members.  In February 2017 the Dairy Club hosted the annual conference of the Midwest Regional American Dairy Science Association - Student Affiliate Division in Brookings, attracting to campus 400 students and advisors from midwest universities.

Annual activities

Every year, the Dairy Club hosts a Dairy Camp for K-12 grades in early June. Participants get a hands on experience with sessions on showmanship, fitting, judging, and oral reasons. The camp is offered at the SDSU Dairy Research and Training Facility. The last day offers participants a show atmosphere highlighting their hard work.

The cheese box fundraiser throughout the holiday season is the Dairy Club's largest fundraiser. Thousands of pounds of cheese are cut and sold in pound packages throughout the duration of the sale. Processed cheese spread is available along with various kinds of cheese. Cheese boxes are sold in the SDSU Dairy Bar and can also be ordered online or by mail and can be shipped to any desired location.

The Dairy Club also participates in the South Dakota State Fair and several activities on campus including the Ice Cream Social, Hobo Days, intramural sports, Little International, National Ag Day, and Relay For Life. Members also enjoy many recreational activities from bowling to ice skating.

Dairy Digest

The Dairy Digest is an annual publication of the Dairy Club. Released at the department scholarship and awards banquet in April, the Digest is an illustrated documentation of Dairy Club, student and departmental activities, and achievements throughout the year.  Dairy Digests published since 1987 are available here.
