June 20-22, 2024

Who is Jackrabbit Dairy Camp for?

Jackrabbit Dairy Camp is open to anyone ages 9 to 17 who has a passion for the dairy industry or wants to learn more! Prior fitting and showing dairy heifers experience is not a requirement for our camp. We are excited to help campers learn the basics of showing dairy cattle while highlighting other industry aspects for a well-rounded dairy experience

Professors at SDSU and industry professionals will give the various workshops from fitting to an udder dissection. SDSU students who are experienced showman showing at various national and state shows will assist students and be counselors for one-on-one learning experiences.

Why Come to Camp

Every student will receive their own dairy heifer to learn how to clean, fit and show their animal. They will also get to attend workshops including: Fitting, Showmanship, Udder Dissection and dairy cow reproductive physiology, and cheese making. We will also have many fun and interactive activities for the kids to relax and get to know one another from our luau celebration to bowling and our heifer auction.

2023 Dairy Camp Review

On June 15-17, 2023, the SDSU Dairy Club hosted Dairy Camp for the first time since 2019. Various club members of all levels were met with a fun group of 16 kids ages 9-15. The kids participated in workshops with Department of Dairy and Food Science faculty as well as industry professionals that all helped improve their dairy knowledge and showmanship skills. All exhibitors were given a free SDSU colored rope halter as part of the Sara Sontag Schmitt Memorial on top of many other sponsored goodies. Congratulations and thank you to our attendees for helping us come back with a splash.
