University Student Union

Student Union

Originally built in 1973 for $2.8 million, the University Student Union is the center of student activity on campus. The union is three levels and houses numerous meeting rooms including Volstorff Ballroom, several places to study or hang out with friends, the University Bookstore, Information Exchange, several eating establishments and student government offices.

Building Description

The main level, or “Main Street” of the union has several computer kiosks and printers. Also located on Main Street is Information Exchange. This is a great spot to ask a quick question, buy concert tickets, cash a check and even check out laptops.

Card Services, the place to get a student ID or to buy Hobo Dough, and the Center for Student Engagement are also on Main Street. Inside the Center for Student Engagement is the Students’ Association (student government), Fraternity and Sorority Life, University Program Council and the Office of Career Development. These offices are there to make sure students can get involved during their time on campus.

In 2004, the union underwent a $10 million renovation and expansion that elevated it to a state-of-the-art facility. The union expanded in 2010 to include an additional meeting room, a permanent display for the Bummobile and other Hobo Day memorabilia and two new eateries.
