Prairie Reparatory Theatre 1971 Season Program cover

Prairie Repertory Theatre Archives

The Prairie Repertory Theatre was founded by students and faculty in 1971 after the relocation of the Oldham Opera House to Prairie Village near Madison, S.D. The Prairie Repertory Theater was created through collaboration by the Prairie Historical Society and South Dakota State University in order to present a joint summer theater season. The Prairie Repertory Theater has worked to encourage theatrical talent in the community and continue the historic tradition of bringing theater to communities in South Dakota.

The Prairie Repertory Theater began by presenting four plays each summer for a duration of six weeks, performed at SDSU in Brookings and at Prairie Village, and recently celebrated their 50th year of theater productions.

The Collection

The Prairie Repertory Theatre Records are composed of programs, posters, season ticket brochures, scrapbooks, and photographs from the plays, musicals, and revues produced by the group.

An inventory of what is in the University Archives can be found in the finding aid for the Prairie Repertory Theatre Records.
