The department focuses on a student-centered curriculum that provides a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences. After successful completion of the University's general education core requirements and the first two years (P1 and P2) of the professional pharmacy curriculum along with the University's General Education core requirements, students are awarded the B.S. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. On completion of the next two years of the pharmacy curriculum (P3 and P4), students are awarded the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. In addition, the department has a strong undergraduate research program, and several students have received awards for their research work.

The department offers a comprehensive Ph.D. program in Pharmaceutical Sciences that prepares graduates for academic, industry, and research careers. Our graduates are well placed in academic, industry, and research institutions in the US and other countries. In addition to receiving national recognition for their research work, the graduate students are also active in several national scientific organizations.

Our highly dedicated faculty members provide quality education and research training in the pharmaceutical sciences. The faculty have been recognized for the use of new teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning. The department has an active research program in cancer, cardiovascular, neuropharmacology, immunology, and eye diseases. The research expertise in the department includes medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and drug delivery systems.

As you'll discover, our faculty are working on several exciting research projects and have been successful in receiving funding from various public and private funding sources. The department faculty have successfully developed and commercialized several technologies that have led to new start-up companies and economic development in the region. Our faculty members have received regional and national recognition and serve in journal editorial boards, professional organizations, and grant review panels.

The department faculty collaborate with researchers from Sanford Research and Avera Research. The department provides services to companies through facility-user agreements and continues to seek strategic partnerships with other universities, research institutions, and pharmaceutical companies.
