Horses for Heroes: Ground Skills workshop being held September 17, 2020. 20 spots available and open to all disabled veterans/service members. Please contact SDSU Veterans Affairs Resource Center to register: 688-4700
The Veterans Affairs Resource Center has partnered with the Animal Science Department and is offering Horses for Heroes. Equine interaction is a activity in order to promote physical, occupational and emotional growth. Equine Therapy can help the individual build confidence, self- efficiency, communication, trust, perspective, social skills, impulse control and learn boundaries. Since the horses have similar behaviors as us, such as social and responsive behaviors, it is easy for the individuals to create a connection with the horse. The program encourages physical and cognitive growth by learning more about horses and there therapeutic nature, providing Veterans with a safe environment to engage in something new.
The following video shares how veterans have benefited from a similar program. Video from Man O' War Project.
