Background and Program Overview

Radiologic technologists, or radiographers, use medical imaging equipment to produce diagnostic images that assist radiologists in the diagnosis of injury or disease. Radiographers can work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, offices and clinics or diagnostic imaging centers. Students must complete an accredited program, earn an academic degree and pass a national certification examination in order to become a registered radiographer.

Each week, a radiologic technology student will spend 40 hours in the hospital and radiology department. Training will be in general diagnostic radiography, trauma, fluoroscopy and surgery. Students will participate in rotations at several locations including Avera Orthopedics, Avera Specialty Hospital, Prairie Center and Sioux Falls Veterans Administration Medical Center.
