Term Important Dates

Spring 2021

December 7-January 20: Submit Attendance Confirmation

Confirm your attendance at SDSU for Spring 2021 or let us know you no longer plan to attend via the Attendance Confirmation form on your MyState Dashboard.

Selecting that you no longer plan to attend by Jan. 20 will remove your courses and notify various departments on campus that you will not be returning, such as Residential Life and Financial Aid.

January 11: Start Date/Instruction Begins

First day of in-class and online instruction. Students should access online courses through D2L.

January 11-20: Drop courses or withdraw with no charge, no "W"

Access MyState to add or drop courses via Registration Self Service. To withdraw (drop all classes and leave SDSU temporarily or permanently), call the Registrar's Office at 605-688-6195 or email Liz.Pierre@sdstate.edu.

If you drop a course or withdraw from all courses during this timeframe, you will not be charged for it on your semester bill. If you already paid for the course and don't add another of equal or greater cost, you will be refunded. If you add courses, they will be added to your semester bill. If you already paid before adding courses, you will be responsible for the remaining charges on the semester bill due date of Jan. 21.

January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday

No classes, offices closed.

January 20: Last day to add a course for Spring Term. Last day to drop or add and adjust final fees. Last day to drop or withdraw with no "W" grade.

Also referred to as "census day." Access MyState to add or drop courses via Registration Self Service. To withdraw (drop all classes and leave SDSU temporarily or permanently), call the Registrar's Office at 605-688-6195 or email Liz.Pierre@sdstate.edu.

January 20: Reduced Tuition Program forms and Residency Applications due

Access the SDBOR Reduced Tuition Program webpage for more information, requirements, and links to forms.

Residency Applications must be returned to Michelle Kuebler in the SDSU Admissions Office.

January 21-April 6: Drop or withdraw with a "W" grade

Dropped or withdrawn courses will be assigned a W grade. For more information, review our Drop Grade Policy.

January 21: Deadline for Spring semester tuition and fee payment

Payments are due to the Cashier's Office. See more information about how to pay, payment plan options, and refunds on the Cashier's Office Frequently Asked Questions webpage.

January 29: Last day to submit an undergraduate student graduation application for Spring 2021

Submit your graduation application via your MyState Dashboard.

February 12: Last day to submit a graduate student graduation application for Spring 2021

Submit your graduation application via your MyState Dashboard.

February 15: Presidents' Day Holiday

No classes, offices closed.

March 8-12: Spring Break

No classes, offices open.

March 15: First half of Fall Term ends

Also referred to as midterm.

March 18: Deficiency reports due by midnight

If your instructor assigns you a deficiency grade (DEF) for a course, you will receive an email from the Registrar's Office alerting you to check your midterm grades. You can work with your instructor and advisor to make a plan to address your grade.

March 22-April 9: Early Registration

Early registration via Registration Self Service on the MyState Dashboard.

April 2-4: Easter Recess 

No class on Friday. The governor authorized administrative leave on the Monday following Easter in Spring 2020 and classes were canceled. Although April 5 is currently scheduled as a class day, please note this and plan events accordingly.

April 6: Last day to drop/withdraw

Access MyState to drop courses via Registration Self Service. To withdraw (drop all classes and leave SDSU temporarily or permanently), call the Registrar's Office at 605-688-6195 or email Liz.Pierre@sdstate.edu. To withdraw after this date you will need to complete the Withdrawal Petition via DocuSign.

May 3-7: Finals exams

Check your course syllabi for information about your final exams.

May 7: Official graduation date (not Commencement)

The degree date that will be noted on transcripts for Spring 2021 graduates.

May 12: Grades due by midnight

Instructors: Submit grades via SNAP. Students: Check your final grades via your MyState Dashboard.

Summer 2021

May 31: Memorial Day Holiday

No classes, offices closed.

June 1-August 6: 10-Week Academic Summer Session

 

June 18: Last day to submit a graduation application for Summer 2021

Submit your graduation application via your MyState Dashboard.

July 5: Independence Day Holiday Observed

No classes, offices closed.

Aug. 9-20: August Interim

 

August 20: Official graduation date (not Commencement)

The degree date that will be noted on transcripts for Summer 2021 graduates.
