‘Tis cold and flu season, and time to see the Doctor. In June of 1882, the Dakota Medical Association set a standardized fee bill for healthcare in Dakota Territory. The fee bill would be in place until the next regular meeting in May of 1883.

Who doesn’t love a sweet treat this time of year? Pictured is someone spooning out batter onto a baking sheet. This photograph was for a 4-H meal planning bulletin from 1951.

We often associate fall with pumpkins, for good reason, as that is their season! People, particularly ladies, took great pride in setting a beautiful table, which brings us to this mold. A pumpkin ice cream mold is this week’s What’s New Wednesday artifact! Made of pewter, the mold was produced by V. Clad.

For today’s throwback Thursday we are showcasing a photo from a previous Little International. Little International or Little I’’, is the country’s largest two-day student run agricultural exposition. Little ‘I’ just celebrated its 100th exposition. The photo shows the introduction of the Little ‘I’ staff from 1981. The museum currently has the exhibit “Little International Leaving a Legacy Celebrating 100 years” on display. This exhibit many more photographs and objects that discuss Little ‘I’ history.

“Round and ‘round we go…” Not to be confused with a “spinning” office chair, this wooden chair is specifically designed to assist the spinner in creating yarn from fiber.

“A handy tool for Judging Livestock”

This “shooting stick”, a folding chair crossed with a walking stick, was used by Hilton M. Briggs for livestock judging. Made in England under the brand Gamebird Trademark, it consists of a steel rod with a round piece on the bottom and a leather seat on the top.

Today for Throwback Thursday we have a postcard from 1911. The image is an alfalfa field in Ipswich, South Dakota.

Nearly 150 years ago Hans Peter Hansen paid a filing fee of $2. In return he received this receipt for his payment and proof that he had made a declaration to claim the land located at the Southeast corner of section 20, township 103N, of range 71W.
