1992:093:0693. Color postcard of an alfalfa field with two people in a horse and buggy.

Today for throwback Thursday we have a postcard from 1911. The image is an alfalfa field in Ipswich. The postcard states that the owner of the field is Marcus P. Beebe. In the 1850s alfalfa seeds were imported from Chile to California, from there it spread West across the United States, including South Dakota. The first reported planting of alfalfa in the Dakota Territory was near Deadwood in 1881.
