Who doesn’t enjoy some friendly competition? This photograph from our Leland Sudlow Collection shows a shirt ironing competition during the Farm and Home Week show on campus in February 1946. The photo depicts five women on stage all ironing shirts. Farm and Home Week was started by South Dakota State College professor George Brown in 1926. The event was sponsored by the university and Extension. Farm and Home Week (though sometimes referred to as fest or day) was an event that encouraged homemakers, farmers and SDSU related professionals to see all the various work that was being done across campus. The event also provided a space for different farm organizations to meet up at one time. The event lasted until the late 1980s.
