Ingenuity is a necessity in agriculture. Some of the greatest farm inventions have come from the need to make life simpler and more efficient. In today’s Throwback Thursday, creativity clearly shows. Edwin Hesby, from south of Volga, employs a wagon hoist to dump the corn into the elevator. The hoist lifts the front of the wagon, and the corn falls out the back. Darwin Fish ensures no corn is lost as it falls into the elevator, run by a tractor. This creativity saves shoveling to fill the 1,600-bushel granary. Harriet Montgomery writes, “The mechanism is simple to operate and is well worth the expenditure on the Hesby farm.” Hoisting up the front saves manpower and time.
