Dan Hagen has joined South Dakota State University’s Office of Disability Services as an accommodations specialist.

“Dan’s unique combination of teaching, technology, collaboration skills and vast experience within higher education and K-12 will be a tremendous asset to serving students who access the Office of Disability Services,” Director of Multicultural Affairs and Accessibility Shelly Bayer said.

Hagen began his new role May 31. His office is within the Multicultural Center in the upper level of the University Student Union, room 271.

Most recently, Hagen was an accommodation coordinator at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota. Before that, he taught K-12 special education for 11 years.

The Office of Disability Services works with all SDSU students with disabilities to ensure they have equitable access to the programs, services and activities of the university.

In his new role, Hagen will work with Assistant Director of Disability Services Nancy Hartenhoff-Crooks to cultivate a culture of access for students with identified disabilities.

“When classes begin, Dan will be assisting with the accommodation process for our students,” Hartenhoff-Crooks said. “The addition of this position provides this office with greater capacity to work with our students more efficiently.”

Hagen earned a Bachelor of Science in agronomy from SDSU and a Bachelor of Science in special education from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

“Dan is a terrific addition to this office. He comes to SDSU with knowledge about the university because he is an alum. And he has experience working both in special education in the K-12 world and spent a number of years working with students with disabilities in postsecondary education, too. We are so fortunate to have him here,” Hartenhoff-Crooks added.
