Spruce Up SDSTATE Day

Monday, Apr. 22, 2024

Event Details

Dear Campus Community—Spring is here, and we are busy planning for our 13th annual Spruce Up SDSTATE Day. The purpose of this event is to pick up litter and beautify our campus in a way that brings together students and campus employees and to celebrate the arrival of spring at SDSU. The participation of colleges, student organizations and other work units from around the campus has grown every year, and this year we have high hopes to be no exception. I hope this year every College/Unit can participate. However, participation is not exclusive to academic colleges or student organizations—any group of campus employees (e.g., an office, department, organization, etc.) or student organization can participate in the fun.

We want to promote and focus this as a fun, social but practical event. The origin of this event goes back to 2010 and was to assist with the normal receding snowbanks throughout March that uncovered lots of embarrassing litter on our campus. Spring is a time with many major events, such as graduation, bringing outside visitors to our campus. Many hands make this fast work, the entire event typically lasts roughly an hour. It takes just a few minutes of time to make a BIG impact to beautify our campus!

How to get involved: College deans, directors and department heads: please consider promoting to one or more of your student organizations. Faculty and staff are encouraged to join in with students. Facilities & Services provides trash bags and gloves for the volunteers. Proper litter disposal instructions, according to the latest Facilities & Services guidelines, will be given to all participants at the event kick-off.

Again, no registration required, if you are willing to help Spruce up SDSTATE just show up on Monday, April 22nd at 5pm at the west entrance of the Union.

It is a really fun event with obvious tangible results and I hope we have many participants. If anyone has any questions, feel free to reach out! We hope to see you there!
