#MeetSDStateNursing—Allysen Zerfas

Allysen Zerfas

Allysen Zerfas is a B.S.N. student from Brookings.

What motivated you to choose a career in nursing: My grandfather had cancer and spent a lot of time in
the hospital and eventually passed in the ICU. With spending so much time in the hospital, I felt that nurses that cared for my grandpa had such an impact on not only my grandpa, but my family and our grieving process as well. This is what made me choose a career in Nursing.
Why did you choose SDSU to pursue your nursing degree: I was already attending SDSU for Psychology and
Human Development and Family Studies, therefore when I decided to change to nursing it was convenient that I was already attending a school with one of the greatest nursing programs across the country.
What clinical experience have you enjoyed the most and why: So far, my favorite clinical experience has
been on Avera McKennan 1 East Cardiopulmonary Unit.
Is there a particular field of nursing you are planning to pursue: Unsure currently, but most likely some sort of medical-surgical nursing.
What advice would you share with a future nursing student: Although it seems like an intimidating major, you can do it if you set your mind to it.
