#MeetSDStateNursing—Alesha Glaser

Alesha Glaser

Meet B.S.N. student Alesha Glaser from Aberdeen. Alesha attends the South Dakota State University main campus in Brookings.

What motivated you to choose nursing: I always wanted to be in the medical field and while I was in high school I shadowed a nurse. Ever since, I absolutely fell in love with the profession and could not see myself doing anything else! Nursing allows me to serve others while also being able to grow in my professional and personal life. It brings many obstacles and opportunities that continually make you grow everyday and with every patient.

Why did you choose SDSU: I wanted to come to SDSU because it is close to home, and it has an exceptional reputation for nursing school. When I toured SDSU, I just knew this is where I was meant to be, and it felt like home the first time I stepped on campus.

What clinical experience have you enjoyed the most: I have enjoyed Avera Heart Hospital the most for clinical so far. I was not too sure about cardiac nursing and ever since I have loved it and each day and patient is very different from the last. I got to see an open-heart surgery and it one of the coolest experiences that I will always remember.

What organizations that you are involved in: On campus I am involved in Student Nurses Association where I am on the executive board as the community health chairperson. I am involved with intramurals and attend oasis college ministry off-campus.

Is there a particular field of nursing you are planning to peruse: I am interested in a lot of different nursing specialties, but a few have caught my eye. I like the ICU, pediatrics and surgery and would love to see what career path I plan to take maybe in one of those

What is your big dream: As of right now my big dream goal is to become a nurse practitioner working alongside a doctor assisting with orthopedic surgery.

What advice would you share with a future nursing student: Nursing school is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Nursing is hard but as long as you are determined and follow your dreams you will be able to do anything. Finding your group of friends within nursing is one the best pieces of advice I can give. I could not have done it without the help of my family, friends and nursing school friends
