India Night set for Sunday at SDSU

The South Dakota State University Indian Students’ Association invites the campus and greater Brookings community to India Night, set for Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Volstorff Ballroom in the University Student Union.

The celebration of Indian culture will be held from 6-8 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m.

About 500 attendees are expected to enjoy the event's rich array of music, dance, fashion and cuisine. Menu items include popular Indian dishes such as chicken tikka masala, shahi paneer and pulao. Performances will include Bollywood dance, Indian classical songs, piano performance, and Punjabi Bhangra, energetic folk dance and music originating from Punjab, India.

India Night is just one of the international nights at SDSU that highlight students’ home countries and cultures.

"Our university thrives on diversity. International nights, like India Night, are vital in emphasizing the importance of global understanding and bridging cultural divides. They remind us that, while our traditions may differ, our shared human experiences bind us together," Indian Students’ Association Treasurer Aniket Singh said.

Indian Students’ Association President Sukhvir Kaur added, "One of my favorite parts of India Night is watching the audience's reactions. Whether it's the mesmerizing sway of the Bollywood dance or the energetic beats of Punjabi Bhangra, there's a certain magic in sharing a piece of home with others."

Tickets, available at SDSU’s online ticket office, are $11.50 for youth ages 3-15 years, $17 for SDSU students with ID, and $22 for adults. Admission is free for children 2 and younger.
