Ellise Otheim, a first-year nursing student at South Dakota State University, is the recipient of a $5,000 Sanford Health Military and Veteran Scholarship. Otheim, a sophomore from Hartford, was surprised with a scholarship announcement during her Professional Nursing Concepts class on Nov. 13, as representatives from Sanford and SDSU stormed the Wagner Hall classroom with balloons and a giant check.
SDSU nursing faculty honored by peers
Two current and one retired member of the College of Nursing faculty at South Dakota State University have been honored by their peers. The service of Lori Hendrickx, Tom Stenvig and Marge Hegge was recognized by the South Dakota Nurses Association at its 2023 convention in Huron Oct. 1-2.

South Dakota State University has been recognized as one of the top colleges in South Dakota for 2024, especially when it comes to online degree programs, according to Intelligent.com. The website ranked SDSU No. 2 among the 15 best colleges in South Dakota and No. 3 among the 10 best online colleges in South Dakota.
SDSU cited for having best online nursing program in South Dakota
South Dakota State University’s online nursing program ranks first in the state and 45th nationally, according to EduMed. Since 2019, EduMed has released annual rankings that highlight that year’s top programs based on a combination of factors like affordability, accessibility and commitment to student success.
