Toronto to present faculty recital
Mezzo-soprano Emily Wood Toronto will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center’s Founders Recital Hall on the South Dakota State University campus.
Pianist Carson Covey, an alumnus of SDState, will accompany the program.
The recital is titled “I Hear Music in the Air.” The program will feature the “Zigeunerlieder” of Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and the “Chants populaires” of French composer Maurice Ravel.
The program will also include four African American spirituals arranged by 20th century composer, choral conductor and teacher Francis Hall Johnson, as well as the South Dakota premiere of three art songs by contemporary American composer Jocelyn Hagen.
The recital is free, and the public is invited to attend.
