Krishnan receives international award for cereals analysis
Professor Padu Krishnan of South Dakota State University’s Department of Dairy and Food Science received the 2020 Edith A. Christensen Award for Outstanding Contributions in Analytical Methodology from the Cereals & Grains Association. He is the first South Dakota State University faculty member to get the award, which recognizes the central role analytical methods play in cereal and grain research.

Research fellowship helps microbiology student find career path
A summer undergraduate research fellowship has helped South Dakota State University sophomore Caroline Kincade figure out her career path. Through the Future Agriculture and Science Taskforce Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates (FAST REEU) fellowship program, Kincade worked on a project to understand how cells gain resistance to antibiotics under the supervision of Assistant Professor Nicholas Butzin.

Sunlight, titanium dioxide remove harmful compounds from wastewater
Doctoral student Ibrahim Abusallout of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is using natural sunlight and titanium dioxide to break up harmful compounds which form when disinfectants, such as chlorine, react with organic matter in the wastewater.
