South Dakota State University’s Hilton M. Briggs Library invites the public to attend “Religion and 007: Exploring Themes that Bond Us Together,” a free event examining the intersection of religion, popular culture and the iconic James Bond franchise.

The program will take place from 7-8 p.m. April 15 in the Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies Building (directly east of Briggs Library), Room 100.

The event will feature George Tsakiridis, who will present themes from his upcoming anthology on religion and James Bond. He will be joined by co-contributors David Palmer and Dale Potts, who will each offer additional perspectives drawn from their areas of expertise.

Tsakiridis, SDSU senior lecturer of philosophy and religion, will explore religious themes and imagery across the James Bond canon, including an analysis of the most recent film, “No Time to Die.”

Potts, associate professor of history from SDSU’s School of American and Global Studies, will examine Andean religious traditions as depicted in “Quantum of Solace,” while Palmer, professor of management from the Ness School of Management and Economics, will discuss just war theory in relation to the James Bond comics.

The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session, providing attendees an opportunity to engage in discussion about the enduring cultural significance of the James Bond character and universe.

“Briggs Library is delighted to welcome back Dr. George Tsakiridis, as well as his colleagues, Dr. David Palmer and Dr. Dale Potts,” said Laura Larson, chair of the Briggs Library Events and Publicity Committee. “Anyone interested in cutting through the intrigue of this secret agent to gain insight on the interaction between pop culture and academia would enjoy this engaging discussion.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Laura Larson at Briggs Library.
