SDSU awards presidential medallion to Jim Woster
South Dakota State University President Barry Dunn has bestowed a Presidential Medallion upon SDState alum and supporter Jim Woster.
The SDState Presidential Medallion is awarded to very select individuals who have significantly contributed toward the advancement and benefit of South Dakota State University. The medallion presentation was made during SDState’s Sept. 13 Beef Bowl football game against Drake.
The Presidential Medallion is the highest symbol of esteem and appreciation for one’s personal efforts that have been generous and significant in the progress of SDState.
“Jim has made a tremendous impact through his unwavering support of South Dakota State University, and the Jackrabbits community is all the better for it,” Dunn said. “Jim’s tireless commitment has benefitted all students, faculty and staff of SDSU. In return, the entire university offers its sincere gratitude.”
A 1962 animal science graduate of SDState, Woster, a Reliance native, has spent his life advocating for and enriching the South Dakota agricultural community.
He completed a 30-year career at the Sioux Falls Stockyards, where his knowledge and storytelling made him one of the most trusted voices in agriculture. This led to a long-running commodity report on Keloland TV, watched by viewers across the region. Beyond the stockyards, Woster has served on countless boards, championed causes close to his heart, and lent his energy and humor to charity events statewide, amplifying the impact of everything he touched.
A proud Jackrabbit and a South Dakota Hall of Fame inductee, Woster has given generously of his time, talent and treasure to SDState. From scholarships and athletics to academic programs and community initiatives, there are few places on campus that Woster or his family have not influenced.
“Through his life’s work, humility and commitment to service, it is our honor tonight to present him with the SDState Presidential Medallion at the 58th annual Beef Bowl,” the announcer said at the football game. “Jim, thank you for your dedication to this university and this state. You truly are our ‘Mr. Jackrabbit!’”
The presidential citation that accompanies the medallion says, “For a public university to achieve high levels of excellence, it requires the dedicated commitment of many hands and many hearts. Your personal labors have been singular, generous and significant in the progress of South Dakota State University. It is therefore, with sincere thanks, that we recognize you with the highest symbol of the university’s great esteem and deep appreciation.”
