2016 SDSU Electrical Engineering Camp

In 2015, young scholars at the first-ever SDSU electrical engineering camp spent almost as much time burning off energy as they did learning about energy.

The Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science declared that it was "NOT offering your ordinary electrical engineering camp," and the department delivered on that promise by also engaging the 19 participants in rock climbing, kayaking, horseback riding, archery and swimming.

Cory Mettler is the camp director.  If you have questions, contact him at cory.mettler@sdstate.edu.

Here's what happened at last year's camp.

Faculty and Student Honors

Harold C. Hohbach Endowed Professorship – Dr. Qiquan Qiao, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, was selected as the next Harold C. Hohbach Endowed Professor in Electrical Engineering. The endowment was created in 2011 when Dr. David Galipeau was named. Each recipient holds the position for five years.

Dr. Qiao came to South Dakota State in 2007 after completing his postdoctoral work in chemistry at the University of Florida. His research has included work with solar power, inorganic solar cells, organic solar cells, organic electronics, energy storage and renewable energy systems. Dr. Qiao has earned numerous awards and was recognized at the 2014 Celebration of Faculty Excellence with the F.O. Butler Award for Excellence in Research at SDSU.
