Friendship Family Program

SDSU international students represent more than 80 countries from around the world. Each student brings fascinating backgrounds and fresh perspectives. The Friendship Families Program helps facilitate connections between these international students and local families, building greater understanding and appreciation for those world cultures present right here in the Brookings community.

Why should you be a Friendship Family?

  • Expand your family
  • Learn more about our world
  • Get acquainted with another culture in a personal and unique way
  • Give an international student a friend or a family-away-from-home

Suggested activities

Explore culture and traditions. Share American life experiences as well as embrace unique cultural traditions from your student. Your student immediately becomes a new friend or member of your family. Include him/her at informal family dinners, holiday celebrations, outings and local events. Here are a few ideas:

Fall Activities

  • Pumpkin picking and carving
  • Attend an SDSU athletics event
  • Rake leaves and jump in the piles
  • Visit an apple orchard

Winter Activities

  • Host a board game tournament
  • Sled on Larson Hill

Spring Activities
