                                         Healing Words Foundation

The Healing Words Foundation (HWF) is an original Yeager Media Center client from the fall of 2011. Services that the Yeager Media Center provide include: episode planning, field production, pre-production, post-production, live broadcast, repackaging with captions (DVD & YouTube), and hands on learning for student employees. A result of this ongoing partnership, HWF gets their health information out to the masses through South Dakota's public television network and the Prairie Doc® YouTube channel. SDSU students gain real world experience working on a live TV program as a reporter or technical crew member on the broadcast in a safe learning environment.

The On Call with the Prairie Doc® television program is one of the outlets the HWF utilizes to provide honest, science-based medical information to the greater South Dakota region. Each hour-long episode centers on a specific medical topic with the goal of providing patient education. For 18 Seasons, the late Dr. Rick Holm, the Prairie Doc®, hosted various guests to discuss relevant medical issues and answers questions from viewers. To support and continue this mission, Holm and his life partner Joanie established HWF as a 501c3 in 2011. Four physicians, Andrew Ellsworth, Kelly Evans-Hullinger, Deb Johnston and Jill Kruse, have agreed to take on the volunteer role of hosting the On Call with the Prairie Doc® television program. Rick wanted everyone to know that, while he originally developed the Prairie Doc® program and had been known to many as “THE” Prairie Doc®, he felt he was always surrounded by a “team of Prairie Docs.”

Brady Nicolaus, Journalism Major states. “I have been working with Yeager Media and I have loved every minute of it. I have met several great people who have helped me to develop as a professional, as well as a better person overall. I have also developed many skills in production work both on and off set. I cannot wait to take these skills with me further into my professional career.
