Xin Jing, PhD, Researcher

Xin (Vicky) Jing has worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the SDSU IP Lab since November 2016. Her research interests include working with the following:

(1) RadCalNet: As a beta user of the Radiometric Calibration Network (RadCalNet) portal, Jing is doing the comparison of RadCalNet top-of-atmosphere simulated reflectance to the corresponding measurements from Landsat 7/8 and Sentinel 2 sensors.

(2) Hyperion calibration: Earth-Observing One (EO-1) Hyperion was decommissioned in March 2017. Its 10-nm hyperspectral data is essential for multi-spectral sensors cross calibration, especially among the Landsat series sensors and Sentinel 2. Thus, it is important that Hyperion be well calibrated at all spectral channels. Jing utilized absolute radiometric calibration using the vicarious reflectance-based approach at SDSU and automated in-situ Radiometric Calibration Network (RadCalNet) to determine the absolute gain factors based on the SDSU site record from 2002-2014 and 2015, respectively. Then she performed long term trending using the Libya 4 Pseudo-Invariant Calibration Site (PICS) to determine the stability and drift of Hyperion from a multispectral point of view from 2004 until Hyperion was decommissioned.

(3) Landsat 7/8 ground reflectance products validation: Ground reflectance is a critical product for remote sensing application. Based on the same orbit and similar equatorial crossing times between Landsat 7/8 and MODIS Terra, the ground reflectance archives of Landsat 7/8 and MODIS Terra will be compared to validate the accuracy of Landsat 7/8 ground reflectance products.
