Wellness Center Climbing Wall

The Wellness Center Climbing Wall provides challenges and fun for beginning and experienced climbers alike. 

Come try out all of our climbing areas! The pinnacle measures at 35 ft. There is also a 25 ft Climbing Wall and 12 ft bouldering area! All students and members are welcome to use the climbing areas during staffed hours, but climbers may use the bouldering wall anytime.

Programming

Belay Certification Class
Attend the class and learn climbing basics, terms, techniques, knots, & safety. Each class is limited to 6 participants. Good through the entire academic year. The cost of the class is $5. 

-  Non-Members will also be required to purchase a Guest Pass to take the class 

Lead Qualification Class
Lead Climb Clinic that increases your knowledge and understanding of both Lead Climbing and Lead Belaying. You also get Lead Certified. Climbers must be belay certified prior to taking the class.  Cost is $5 for students/members and $10 for visitors.

Prerequisites - Ability to belay and climb a 5.8 level top-rope route.

Rock Rabbits
Climbing experience for children ages 3-10 years of age. Trained staff members teach participants bouldering basics, climbing commands, play games, and much more! 

Registration is available at the SDSU Wellness Center's Welcome Desk.

Common Questions:

Who can use the climbing area?

The climbing area is open to any SDSU student or Wellness Center member. Guests are also permitted but must purchase a day pass.

Does it cost anything?

Use of the climbing area is free to students and members.

What kind of equipment do I need?

The climbing area provides climbing shoes, chalk bags and a harness at no charge.

Is there any training or skills required to climb?

No prior training is required to climb. Wellness Center employees are available to belay.

Can I belay other climbers?

Participants with belay certification may belay another climber. If you already know how to belay, you can take the belay skills test anytime that the climbing wall is open. Belay Certification is valid for the academic year. All climbers must re-test annually.
