Time and Place
All meetings are held in the Veterans Resource Center in the VARC (Brown Hall, Rm 134), unless otherwise indicated. Meetings run from approximately 5:00 - 6:00pm, with food generously donated by the SDSU English Department. Our books are generously sponsored by the SD Humanities Council. With the support of these organizations and the SDSU Veteran's Affairs Office, we are able to bring this group together for great conversations about military experience.

Tribe Preview: author Sebastian Junger
Combining history, psychology, and anthropology, TRIBE explores what we can learn from tribal societies about loyalty, belonging, and the eternal human quest for meaning. ... TRIBE explains why we are stronger when we come together, and how that can be achieved even in today's divided world.
SDSU serves over 500 veterans, current service members, and dependents who have received assistance from the SDSU Veterans Affairs office. SDSU also has an Army and Air Force ROTC program, and Brookings is home to SDNG units. Our community is home to numerous veterans and civilians who have a connection to the military and stories to share. We believe in the importance of sharing these stories and creating an environment that invites sharing.
We provide reading materials for those interested in reflecting on military experience and culture. We provide tools, guidance, and collaborative opportunities at any stage in the writing process for anyone looking to write their experiences in non-fiction, fiction, and poetry. Additionally, we offer options for sharing and advice on publishing completed work.
Anyone!! Our group has evolved each semester to meet the needs of our participants, tailoring the amount and type of reading and writing to our changing group. Participants need not consider themselves writers or good writers to attend. Anyone interested in reading and/or writing about military experience and anyone who enjoys sharing their own military stories will find themselves at home in this group.
