Dwight Beukelman has been named South Dakota State University’s December Civil Service Employee of the Month. A reception honoring him will start at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the commons area in the Facilities and Services Building.
Beukelman, who started at State in 2012, currently works in the Facilities and Services Customer Services Center.
In letters of support, co-workers praised his friendly and helpful demeanor as well as his dedication to the university.
South Dakota State University’s North Chiller Plant recently received an honorable mention award at the International District Energy Association’s annual conference and trade show. The North Chiller Plant was entered in the IDEA Innovation Award category, which values the open exchange of best practices, sharing of new technologies and lessons learned from industry peers that drive progress and advancement in district energy.
Lisa VandeKieft has been named South Dakota State University’s July Civil Service Employee of the Month. A reception honoring her will start at 3 p.m. July 27 at Facilities and Services on campus.
VandeKieft, who has worked in Facilities and Services since June 2011, is a custodial services supervisor II.

Since 2009, South Dakota State University has been selected as a Tree Campus USA institution. The Tree Campus USA program, supported by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota Motor North America, recognizes colleges and universities across America for excellent campus forestry practices and conservation efforts.
As part of the recognition, South Dakota State will hold its annual Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. Wednesday at its Arbor Day Park.
South Dakota State University’s North Chiller Plant recently received a 2017 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Nebraska. Farris Engineering, whose headquarters are in Omaha, Nebraska, oversaw the building’s mechanical design, submitted it in the building and technology systems category.
Jason Derksen has been named September Civil Service Employee of the Month at South Dakota State University. A reception honoring him will be held at 10 p.m. Wednesday in Rotunda A.
