Wool Marketing (3/18/21)

Wool Market

Have you ever thought about the wool market? Did you know that the wool market is seasonal? Most wool is sold in the spring during shearing season. The wool produced in South Dakota must compete on the market with wool from Australia, China, New Zealand and the rest of the world. Before the 1960s, wool was sold by the pound regardless of the quality or the cleanliness. As the wool textile market declined, restrictions were added to the manufacturing process because buyers wanted less waste and cleaner wool. These new demands brought Micron testing into play to ensure the level of accuracy in determining the quality of wool.
