Necessity is the mother of invention. Designed and built by Lee Pinet of Mitchell, this plow guide was designed for row crop tractors. Jesse Lee Pinet, born in Missouri in 1893. He grew up in Missouri and moved to Sioux Falls where he lived with his uncle. In 1917, he registered for the draft in Minnehaha County, where he lists his occupation as a machinist for Van Brunt Overland Co. The 1920 U.S. Census lists Pinet as living Sioux Falls and working as an implement machinist and in the 1930 census he has moved to Mitchell. The 1940 Mitchell city directory lists him as machinist at Mitchell Iron Supply Company. Pinet's obituary states that during WWII, he was employed at Rosum Motor Co. as the shop foreman in the defense plant. In 1946, he went into business for himself at the Pinet Machine and Gun Shop. Pinet's Machine and Gun Shop was located at 509 N. Main, Mitchell. Pinet died May 8, 1962 and is buried in Mitchell.
