This Aspinwall Potato cutter is from the Henry Meyer ranch, 25 miles south and west of McLaughlin. This machine was used to prepare potatoes for planting or selling to commercial growers. A potato cutter is used to cut potatoes into sections called sets. Each set is a section of a potato containing at least two to three eyes. Aspinwall Manufacturing Company began in Three Rivers, Michigan in 1884. In 1891 it moved its manufacturing to Jackson, Michigan. In 1925 the company was sold to McKenzie Manufacturing, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Aspinwall also manufactured, potato planters, churns, corn and bean planters and other agricultural equipment.
