Services Provided

Desktop publishing programs have made writing and designing publications such as newsletters, brochures, posters, flyers, etc., much easier. However, a publication designed in-house does not necessarily mean it is print ready. Electronic prepress procedures ensure projects are ready for printing. These procedures apply to the simplest business form or the most complicated full-color brochure.

SDSU's printing services equipment makes use of computer images that can be exposed directly to metal plates which are then processed and sent directly to the presses. This technology has greatly reduced the amount of labor required to get a job done.

The color copier can reproduce color copies on paper sizes up to 13 inches x 19 inches.

The black and white copier can copy on paper up to 12" x 18" and convert copied pages into saddle stapled booklets from 5 ½ inches x 8 ½ inches up to 8 ½ inches x 11 inches.

Large format printing is done on three 44 inches Epson 9880 printers. Length is variable.

A 40 inches laminator is also available.

Persons needing a poster, display or banner are asked to contact printing services two to three days before creating your poster to help eliminate problems.

Variable data printing uses information from a spreadsheet or database to incorporate elements such as text, graphics and/or images that may be changed from one printed piece to the next, without stopping or slowing down the printing process. For example, a set of personalized letters can be printed with your specific customer's name, address, and/or even picture, on each separate letter within the same file and print run. Response rates for projects using variable data printing range from double to 15x the response rates of standard printing.

Binding options include: saddle stapling, side stapling, plastic comb binding, velo (plastic strip) binding with paper, clear mylar or blue composition covers and plastic coil binding.

Perfect binding is also available and makes use of hot melt glue to attach a cover to the book. Please check with printing services to see if the project meets all requirements.

Folding is available with many configurations. Contact printing services for more details.

Saddle binding of folded signatures is done on the Rosback six-pocket stitcher and trimmer. These signatures are first printed on the presses and then folded into signatures, gathered, stapled and trimmed.

Paper cutting is done on the Polar 115 Monitor paper cutter.

Drilling is done on the Lawson three-hole drill.
