#MeetSDStateNursing—Lauren Wilke

Wilke, Lauren Elizabeth

Site:  Brookings Main Campus

Semester: Four

Minor/Second Major: Health Science

Co-curricular activities: Student Nurses Association, second vice president

Advice for fellow students: Nursing school is hard and can be exhausting, remember why you're here, be proud, and never lose the excitement you had the first time you put on those blue scrubs! Look back at the end of each semester and realize how much you are learning, and remind yourself that you do know what you are doing, WE ARE BECOMING NURSES!!!!

Future Goals: Being from a small town, I have a big passion for rural healthcare and really see myself doing that someday. Being a medical surgical, OB and ER nurse all in the same day excites me! I'd love to go on medical mission trips as well.

Why do you want to be a nurse: I've always wanted to be a nurse, growing up as the family first aid specialist I've really enjoyed taking care of people. There is an extremely rewarding feeling when taking care of someone who is sick and hurting.
