Why did you choose SDSU?
I was lucky in that I got to experience SDSU vicariously through my older siblings while I was growing up; I visited my big sister, watched her in the halftime shows during Jacks Football games, and attended her Concert Choir performances. I saw firsthand how much she was loving her experience, and I caught the bug! I felt at home on campus from day one, and the welcoming family atmosphere of the music department is largely to thank for that.
What drew you to your major?
I had a lot of success with music and other types of performance during high school, but I'd also begun to realize that I love explaining what I know and leading others to new skills. Teaching music seemed like a natural choice, and now I'll get to help make sure the next generation of musicians has the great school music experience they deserve!
What are your favorite memories performing with an SDSU ensemble?
Travel. A personal favorite trip of mine was touring Spain with the SDSU Concert Choir in 2016. We sang in some of the most beautiful spaces I've ever seen, some of them hundreds of years old. It was incredible!
What has been your favorite class?
I love my private lessons! It's so nice to get that one-on-one time with my instructors, especially in a department where the faculty know me as a person, not just a musician.
