With nationally recognized faculty as experts in their field, our team is dedicated to student success by providing a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and abilities for employment in the health care field, industry and education graduate; as well as, entrance into graduate and professional schools. Our practice of integrating academic programs, which focus on nutrition, health, leadership, financial planning, consumer affairs, recreation, management, merchandising, exercise and human performance, and aviation provides students and faculty with unique opportunities to collaborate and to promote interaction among students in different majors with a common focus on promoting excellence in their respective major.


The School of Health and Consumer Sciences is dedicated to improving quality of life regionally, nationally and globally by fostering life-long learners, conducting innovative research and teaching and delivering effective education and outreach.

Study shows low COVID-19 infection rate in health care workers

Antibody testing of health care workers in three rural counties in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota showed 15% of the study participants had antibodies to the novel coronavirus.

Students earn Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation scholarships

South Dakota State University students Aryanna Mulroy and Kenna Foss have received scholarships from the Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation.

3 students inducted into international honor society

Three South Dakota State University students were inducted April 27 into the university’s chapter of Eta Sigma Delta. Inducted were senior Meredith Suess, Butterfield, Minnesota, and juniors Mia Cramer, Lennox, and Lucas Schobert, Brandon.
