MMC Coursework Option (Option C)

The coursework option (Option C) requires students to take a total of 36 credits including a portfolio of professional work. It is ideal for those currently working in the mass communication field.

For the portfolio, students demonstrate how they have used their coursework in their current professional roles. The portfolio is practical, assisting students in their current position or enhancing their career aspirations. The portfolio should demonstrate a new skill set acquired in the MMC program that the student has implemented in their professional work. The key is demonstrating the value the MMC program has added within their current career.

The sequence of required courses gives you the tools you will need from start to finish. In MCOM 705: Introduction to the Masters in Mass Communication, students learn what others have done and begin to consider portfolio options. In MCOM 710: Cross-Platform Storytelling, they develop multimedia skills that can be applied to their current profession. Other skills-based electives in a student's plan of study should also help to develop additional and applicable professional skills.

Portfolio structure and the content will vary based on the particular area of communication the student works in. Students interested in the portfolio option should talk with their advisor about the process.
