Our News Director will lead an experienced team of journalists by developing and executing plans that will grow audiences on broadcast and digital platforms.

We're looking for candidates with at least five years of broadcast news experience who will bring strong leadership and management skills to KLKN.  Candidates must be an innovator and passionate about coaching and mentoring our team.  We are looking for a creative mind to execute winning strategies.

Marketing Coordinator

National trade association based in Watertown, South Dakota is seeking a full-time, highly organized and experienced self-starter who is project oriented and can work on multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently.

Intern (Marketing/Communications) - 80 hours

Intern will assist with projects related to marketing the activities of Huron Regional Medical Center, HRMC clinics and Foundation.

Hours per Two Week Pay Period: 80 hours

Shift:  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Certification/Licenses Requirements: Prefer full-time student at a college or university with sophomore standing or above by the end of Spring 2020 semester, or current be enrollment at a vocational-technical school with one year (nine months) completed by the start of the internship.

Preferred Experience: Previous experience with the use of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Illustrator) and social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social) a plus.

Specialist (Marketing/Communications) - 80 hours

Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a full range of marketing and public relations activities (advertising, press releases, Web site, etc.) designed to support the mission of the hospital, and to educate and inform our community, patients, physicians, and employees about hospital services.

Hours per Two Week Pay Period: 80 hours

Shift:  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Weekends: As Needed

Minimum Certification/Licenses Requirements: Four-year degree in marketing, communications or mass communications preferred. Combination of education and experience may be acceptable..

Preferred Experience: Superior computer skills with knowledge of and experience in operating word processing programs, specifically Microsoft Word (including tables and graphics), MS Access, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint, Quark XPress, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and Web development software.

The successful candidate will have to pass competencies for this position.

Digital Content Producer

KLKN-TV, Lincoln’s Own ABC, has an opening for a Digital Content Producer who excels in a fast-paced newsroom environment. The Digital Content Producer will work closely with newsroom managers, producers, reporters, anchors, and meteorologists, to create and push original, creative content to all digital platforms including the station website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. The Digital Content Producer should be focused on driving traffic to those platforms and engaging audiences on all formats.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring and maintaining station website and social media accounts.
  • Locating fresh local and non-local news stories that engage viewers.
  • Generating traffic by understanding and utilizing best practices for web, app, push notifications, and social media.
  • Attending news meetings, prepared and knowledgeable to contribute to daily editorial discussions, to create and enhance local stories on digital platforms.
  • Writing and producing breaking news stories.
  • Launching live streams for various digital platforms.

Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate high journalistic understanding and ethics.
  • Exceptional verbal and writing skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to write clearly on various platforms under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the newsroom team.
  • Willingness to work in a flexible schedule.
  • Understanding of Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, Google Analytics and SEO.

On-Air Host/Producer, News & Possible Sports Opening

KMA has an immediate opening for a dynamic on-air personality who is willing to grow their skills. This position would host and produce a daily, two-hour morning show that includes interviews and thoughtful conversation with a heavy emphasis on local content. Other duties would include some light news writing and delivery, occasional night and weekend duty and the possibility of including sports play-by-play.

The ideal candidate would have experience as an on-air host and/or producer, but we are willing to train the right individual. Previous experience in radio news writing is a plus.

Midco Internships

Fall Internship Positions:

These positions are different than our Summer program, as they are held during the school year. They are PAID positions and focus on our Midco Sports Network division. The positions are ideal for Broadcast / Communication majors to learn about all areas of production for our Midco Sports Network. Hours will vary based on the sporting event schedule, but are considered part-time jobs.

Sports Writing Internship

The Internship:

Write local sports articles to appear on BVMsports.com, a NATIONAL website with local sports coverage from pee wee to pro!

BVM Sports Writing Interns will:

  • Write game previews & recaps
  • Write player/coach/team profiles
  • Write local human-interest stories
  • Provide photo content to compliment articles (possibly video too)
  • Share articles on personal social media platforms

Duration: 16 weeks per semester (fall, spring, summer)

Timeline: Beginning fall 2020 (August 2020)
