The Advertising Major is for students planning careers in advertising and marketing communications. Students complete an advertising core along with up-to-date classes focusing on interest areas. The Journalism Major is for students planning careers in newspapers, television news, magazines, online or multimedia news outlets, photography, radio or social media. All students will receive hands-on multimedia training to prepare them for today's expanding media roles. Students will be qualified to work in a number of journalism jobs by the time they graduate. The Public Relations Major prepares students for careers in public relations and marketing communications, a growing career area nationally and in South Dakota. The major addresses both economic and societal issues, emphasizes the importance of market research and includes experiential learning opportunities. A Public Relations major will expand and enhance the career options available to students in one of the fastest-growing areas of all communication fields. Public relations as a stand-alone program is specialized to meet the high demands of the job of a public relations practitioner.
