The department provides support to other academic majors and programs on campus through the coursework it offers. Several psychology courses are important to the core curriculum and address the needs of students by broadening their perspectives and enabling them to continue the learning process as educated citizens.
The department engages in research, scholarship and service that advances our knowledge of psychology and puts that knowledge to work in our communities.

History of the Department of Psychology
SDSU is the state's 1862 land-grant university. Established in 1881, we are also the state's largest university. The Department of Psychology at SDState was established in 1968. The primary objective of the department is to provide a solid foundation in scientific psychology to prepare our students for employment in a psychology-related field or for additional graduate study.
