Pharmacy Early Assurance Program

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)

Built on a tradition of excellence, our Pharm.D. program is designed with you in mind. Our Pharmacy Early Assurance program allows students to apply for early assurance admission in the Pharm.D. program directly from high school and earn a Pharm.D. in six years. Students complete two years of pre-professional study, while maintaining eligibility requirements and then move seamlessly into the core Pharm.D. curriculum and earn a degree four years later.

Application Requirements

  • Must submit an undergraduate admission application to SDSU
  • Meet SDSU Freshmen Admission Requirements:
    • For admission to SDSU, we look for one of the following academic achievements:
      • An ACT composite score or ACT superscore of 18 or SAT Math and Reading/Writing subscore total of 970 or
      • Level 3 or higher on Math and English Language Arts Smarter Balance Assessment or
      • A high school cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher or
      • A ranking in the top 60 percent of graduating class
    • Students should also complete the following core courses with a “C” average or above:
      • 4 years of English (or ACT English subscore of 18 or above).
      • 3 years of advanced math—Algebra I and higher (or ACT math subscore of 20).
      • 3 years of laboratory science (or ACT science reasoning subscore of 17).
      • 3 years of social science (or ACT reading subscore of 17).
      • 1 year of fine arts (or AP Fine Arts score of 3 or above), includes vocal, instrumental and studio arts.

Submit an Application for Early Assurance.

Completed application will require:

  • A copy of your high school transcript
  • An essay of 500-1,500 words on "Why I Want to Obtain a Pharmacy Degree at SDSU" must be included and conclude with the following statement and then your signature: "I composed this essay, and it reflects my ideas as expressed in my own words and thus reflects my writing ability."
  • All students who have completed college credits while in high school must have an official transcript sent to SDSU
  • Submission of an official ACT or SAT score report is OPTIONAL

Admission by Early Assurance requires an interview prior to starting the program.

Grade Requirements for Progression into the Core Pharm.D. Curriculum

  • Be a full-time student each semester prior to beginning the core Pharm.D. curriculum and complete the required coursework within two years.
  • Overall GPA > 3.0
  • By the end of the fall semester that proceeds the beginning of the desired Pharm.D. start date, students must have completed seven of the following 10 required math and science courses with a grade point average of at least 2.7 and no grade lower than C. Required courses are general chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology, calculus, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, statistics 281 and seminar pre-pharmacy coursework.
  • Successfully complete an interview and writing assessment with the Pharmacy Program Admissions Committee by the end of the fall semester preceding the beginning of the desired Pharm.D. start date.
  • Complete the Pharm.D. application shadowing requirement and submit a completed Shadowing Experiences Form to the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions by their scheduled interview and writing assessment date.
  • If successfully admitted into the professional program, student must pay a $600 seat deposit prior to the end of finals week of the third semester at SDSU.
