Orientation for Online Learners

Welcome to SDSU Online!

By choosing SDSU, you've opened yourself up to endless opportunities and a fantastic future. And it all starts here — with Orientation for Online Learners.

Orientation for online learners will be held virtually and is strictly for fully online students. Whether you are brand new to the college experience or transferring or returning to SDSU, we'll get you started on your path to great.

Step 1: Select Advising and Registration Date

Your academic advising session will be a one-on-one zoom appointment with an advisor in your identified program area. SDSU staff will contact you prior to your orientation session to schedule. Watch your Jacks email account for further information.

You will register for Orientation for Online Learners through your SDSU MyState account.

If you have not previously accessed MyState, please read the following information:

Accessing MyState

You will need:

  1. Your MyState username.
  2. Your MyState password.

NOTE: Both your username and password were emailed to you from the SDSU Admissions Office when you were admitted to the university. If you changed your MyState password since receiving the email, please be sure to use your updated password to log in. If you have any issues accessing MyState, please reach out to the Support Desk at 605-688-6776.

After signing into MyState

  1. Register for Orientation by clicking on the Dashboard tab and finding the Forms section on the Dashboard. In the "Forms" section, find the Orientation for Online Learners Registration Form, which is typically a featured form towards the top of the Forms list.
  2. Verify your major, select your date and complete the rest of the steps to finalize registration.

Confirmation Materials

Once you've registered, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Your final confirmation details will be sent via Jacks email a day or two prior to your session.

Step 2: Access Orientation Platform

All orientation content is available to students asynchronously through SDSU’s learning management platform – Desire to Learn (D2L). Students will gain access to the orientation platform two weeks prior to their scheduled advising and registration appointment.
