Three Year Nurse Administrator Curriculum Plan

This plan of study is for students meeting the 2019-20 and after catalog requirements.

Option A—Thesis

Year 1 courses

  • +NURS 615 Foundations Advanced Nursing (3 credits, fall semester, online)
  • +NURS 760 Advanced Concepts in Health Promotion & Disease Prevention (3 credits, fall semester, online)
  • +NURS 626 Research in Nursing & Healthcare (3 credits, spring semester, online)
  • Pre-Req: Completed Statistics course: If Graduate level course (‘B’ or higher); If Undergraduate level course (‘C’ or higher)
  • +NURS 675 Cultural Competence in Healthcare (3 credits, spring semester, online)
  • +NURS 670 Health Policy, Legislation, Economics and Ethics (3 credits, summer semester, online)
  • +NURS 750 Transformational Leadership in Nursing (3 credits, spring semester, online)

Year 2 courses

  • #Electives as approved by academic advisor (4 credits, fall semester, online/on-campus depending on course)
  • NURS 860 Health Operations and Financial Management for Nurse Managers (3 credits, spring semester, online)
  • +NURS 626 Research in Nursing & Healthcare (3 credits, spring semester, online)

Year 3 courses

  • +*NURS 774 Nurse Administrator: Practicum (5 credits, 180 clinical hours, fall semester, online/didactic/clinical will vary based on placement)
  • #NURS 798 Thesis (5 credits, spring, summer or fall semester, online-defense will be face-to-face in Brookings, Sioux Falls or Rapid City
