South Dakota Art Museum is hosting a free public reception on Friday, Oct. 26 from 5-7 p.m. to celebrate the Rooted, Revived and Reinvented: Basketry in America exhibition, opening on Oct. 19. Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

At 5:45, the exhibition curators, Jo Stealey and Kristin Schwain, will provide insights into the exhibition and works within it. Stealey is director, School of Visual Studies, University of Missouri and Professor of Fibers. Schwain is associate professor of art history, University of Missouri.

The exhibition is a collaborative endeavor between the National Basketry Organization and the University of Missouri.

This reception will also be an opportunity to view works in the other current exhibitions:

  • "Harvey Dunn: War Works."
  • "Heroes, Saviors & Triumphs: Illustrations by Paul Goble (2nd Grouping of works)."
  • "Harvey Dunn: Illustrations."
  • "Marghab Linens."

Parking Information

Parking is available just west of the Art Museum on Harvey Dunn Street (in the Museum's free lot and after 4:00 in the lot in front of West Hall). There is also parking available behind Scobey Hall) without permit after 4:00 and also on the street. Handicapped parking is available immediately west of the museum on Harvey Dunn Street and in the Museum's parking lot on Harvey Dunn Street.
