Event Details

The grand finale in The Art of the Story series, our new storytelling event for kids: My Hero! Classic Superman Cartoon Movies.

Kids of all ages will explore stories told through artworks in our superhero themed exhibit: My Hero! Contemporary Art and Superhero Action. This exhibition, organized by Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, California, presents a sprawling collection of international artworks in a variety of media that celebrates and re-envisions the lives of iconic superheroes.

During this one-hour session, we'll guide participants through a process of discovery using visual thinking strategies, showing kids they can uncover fascinating stories and details in pieces of art. Then we'll watch several original Superman cartoon short films from 1940 and 1941. Fleischer Studios' Superman was ranked No. 33 in a list of 50 greatest cartoons of all times. Kids can compare the images in these classic animations with the artworks in My Hero! and from more recent superhero movies they know.

Superhero capes and costumes welcome! Photo opportunities with Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman and more!

This is a free event and as always, admission to the museum is free.

Ideal for ages 4 - 12 (but adults and kids of all ages are welcome).

All children must be accompanied by an adult.
